Bio

Palmer started off as a Consultant at Legal and General Life and Pensions and, after three years, moved on to become Managing Director at Palmer & Co, the high street accountancy practice in Bournemouth, working there for 21 years between 1994 and 2015.

During those years, he trained as a Tax Policy Advisor with AAT. He has remained with AAT for 16 years, working for them as a self-employed consultant.

This includes representing AAT at HMRC and stakeholder events, and working with the press. He is currently focusing on advising on Tax Policy, Making Tax Digital, and Brexit.

Alongside this, Palmer spent time in Policy Advisory at the Office of Tax Simplification.

Palmer bagged number 42 on Accountancy Age’s Financial Power List 2018. A leading authority on Making Tax Digital, Palmer is sure to be at the forefront of opinion on the government’s digital tax initiative, as well as providing feedback and steer on the direction of the policy. As UK accountants prepare to comply with MTD requirements over the next 15 months, Palmer is in prime position to voice any industry concerns to those at HMRC in the run-up to April 2019.
